MILE (Metadata Image Library Exploitation) is an EC funded project which aims to improve the use, accessibility and trade of digital images throughout Europe.

MILE was chosen for funding by the EC from over 300 project proposals under the eContentplus call of the i2010 digital libraries initiative, to preserve and promote European cultural heritage.

The project is divided into three core areas of investigation:

Metadata classification
Metadata search & retrieval
Intellectual Property Rights as metadata

Tutorials
Under the MILE, project, a series of resources will be developed to assist those dealing with the issues the project is addressing. These resources will be made available through the web site and will include 'tutorials', to provide a guide through the complexities.
Discussions
The MILE project aims to encourage an open discussion among image management professionals of the issues at the heart of the project. A Discussion Forum system is available to facilitate this.
